Doze of UG

"When you are no longer caught up in the dichotomy of right and wrong or good and bad, you can never do anything wrong. As long as you are caught up in this duality, the danger is that you will always do wrong." "All experiences, spiritual or otherwise, are the basic cause of our suffering." "Thought is something dead and can never touch anything living. It cannot capture life, contain it, and give expression to it. The moment it tries to touch life it is destroyed by the quality of life." "Stop thinking and start living." "Cabbages are more alive than human beings." "This body doesn't want to learn anything. Left to itself it has tremendous intelligence." "The human thinking is born out of some sort of neurological defect in the human body. Therefore anything that is born out of human thinking is destructive." More!..... Doze of UG

Some interesting definitions of NEED!

A need is as a psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a goal and the reason for the action - Wiki One of the problems with a psychological theory of needs is that conceptions of "need" may vary radically between different cultures or different parts of the same society. One person's view of need may easily be seen seen as paternalistic by another. - Wiki It might be said that an individual's needs are represent the costs of being human within society. A person who does not have his or her needs fulfilled -- i.e., a "needy" person -- will function poorly in society. -Professor Ian Gough Fulfilling needs - Adequate nutritional food and water, adequate protective housing, a safe environment for working, a safe physical environment, appropriate health care, security in childhood, significant primary relationships with others, physical security, economic security, safe birth control and child-bearing, and appropriate basic and cross-cultu

Design Process for Architecture!

A hut teaches a lot. It gives a definition of need. Hut is basically a bed room. When someone sleeps, he probably needs protection and a little privacy so the idea of walls come in. Almost all other activities used to happen outdoor. Bathing, cooking, eating, work, entertainment, learning....all of these used to happen outside the hut at least in India. It is quite wonderful that all of these activities have become indoor in modern world. This gives a great clue for design. Why do people come to architects? May be it is difficult to address their own needs and probably see their spatial requirements. What I mean here is, for various activities of living there will exist an spatial requirement. Lets say we can solve this by simply working out dimensions. Dimensions are truthful as we can measure it. But this might not suffice completely. Needs for walls or spatial division comes out of either protection or privacy. If I look at todays urban requirement for a young couple who are working

What does User Research mean to me.

It is rather unfortunate that I was introduced to the field of User Research from a point of view of Design, But glad that I was introduced to it. The only lively part of a software system design was meeting the people whom we termed “end users”. I met technicians, educators, kids, farmers, mechanics, engineers, craftsmen, patients so on and so forth just because I was in the field of design and I was designing something for them. All of them were people of dreams and needs, well read to illiterates, highly skilled to casual users, lively to pale, creative to orthodox. Sometimes I wondered if designers go to users, as they are unsure of their designs! But soon realized that it’s quite useful to just be around your Users, instead of breaking my head on some flow of which I cant, see the higher purpose. We learnt to sit close to users and take notes of their behavior towards a System. It was very painful to understand the convincing logic or scientific truth about such an activity like d

Idea works!

After feeling a bit lonely, I opened my Ibook, Itunes and played "Until last moment" by connecting my BOSE speakers. A beautiful composition, I started to see all the beauty I am supposed to see in my life while listening to the tunes created by the great Piano. I wished for all the lively events and dreams which came along the tune. I was excited to listen to the effects of life created by the composition. Later I URLd to see a video piece of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee's sitar which was a documentary on his life. The interviews and his life is really touching. Again showing me the intensity of what a life can be and its excitements are in the taans and strokes of sitar. I wondered that all the above mediums the PC, internet, my speakers have been fairly successful in helping me to cater my heart! Mediums have participated well. I saw some Picasso's paintings, though tightly packed inside my over lit screen, i was amazed by the strokes and the color and their play with fa

The weight of an idea

Ideas reach people after it has successfully shown some commercial success. Ideas do not promise happiness. They seem to satisfy needs and desires. To make this idea reach people we have created systems which have operations. Management fuel the operations, theories of management can make make management more efficient i.e operations more efficient. In the process collectively people earn by making profits to satisfy other needs. If you are not self sufficient, you depend on others to fulfill your needs and desires. Recently issues relating to environment and healthcare....mostly all the issues are being operated in the form of "ideas" from fuel cells to cancer treatments. Even here ideas are not different from other ideas...i.e it should be commercially viable to operate in a social system. One should be able to afford these ideas. Ideas are different from services which are more or less business like continuous supply to demand. Innovations are like instrumental modificatio

Something which touched my heart

After a long time.....I was glad to see a master. Pandit Nikhil Banerjee "That which colors the mind" is being made by Steven Baigal My lots of wishes to him. Do watch the movie clip

Birds Eye View - Interaction Design

-Introduced in 1980's after the invention of Computers though the phenomena existed from the birth of life -Creating the behavior of technical, biological, environmental and organizational systems (wiki) -Exchange of operations between man and objects containing the computers/earlier- machines -It does not promise happy people to people interactions fully -A profession which grew of a need to make computers easy to use -Operations of screens, buttons, mouse, joystick, stylus, gesture sensors, touch screens to use objects -Creating new design using all the above to operate some needs of life -It has nothing to do with improving the quality of interactions between people -It only facilitates by connecting people by technology like enabling two people talk, using information of need. -Interaction designers are fed with user research -Bad interaction design can lead to great disasters -It can make the use of object extremely confusing, irritating and annoying -After many in
