Drive to asundi

Its been a long time I blogged! Always wondered why one has to! Anyways sometimes it could be just for simply put things on your mind. Sindhu and me drove to Asundi. It was a great drive with new roads and amazing dry landscape of the central Karnataka. We watched the burning afternoons, setting sun, evenings getting dark and ofcourse the starlit sky clear and filled. Meeting relatives and exploring temples, good weekends have become a good time for contemplation and revelation! Its become important to focus your mind on simple things like evenings or food or tea or just a walk. That small free mind is capable of making you wonder and put you in a good state of play as well open the mind for few basic questions of our existence.

Realxed mind throws some interesting questions filled with wonder.I got a chance to vist a family temple at my village where there was an annual chariot ritual of Lord Hanuman. The pooja, abhisheka and the ritual was performed by my uncle and I got to see my Great Grandfathers house, his temple and his lands. Huli Halli is a small village near to the town of Ranebennur. The village is surrounded by black soil farms, farmers growing cotton, chillies, cucumber, Sunflower....and so forth. The temple is in the outskirts of the village and looked dilapated with old thorns grown on the shikara and the garbha griha housing the Shiva linga surrounded by cool water. Looked like the temple was rarely used.

The rituals were performed, the chariot was pulled and after that we had a great lunch. What fascinated me was the chariot. Everybody seemed to have a story on the chariot, the elders related to tradition, the ladies talked about practices and other family relations, childern had some ideas of play around it and priest talked about its relationships with gods! Well together, it was a complex object to understand compared to a tumbler or an axe or telephone!

I concluded that 'Ratha' or the chariot was failry a complex object in the village. So if you dont understand then people have various stories and interpretations naturally. We have a natural tendency of connecting our conceptions and make a story out of it. In fact we do stretcth it many times looking for meanings and synbols in the way we make the connections. We do pour many word correcting the appropratemness in its meanings in belief or pour numbers and logistics to express practicality or logic in it. But we weave and want to reflect and desire to see sense it it. Ratha as an object gave way to open interpretation for anyone to create a story by his own virtue of pouring words to his conceptions.

Temple, its decorations, ratha, rituals are absurd objects in a culure, essential though as Langer mentions in her book, philosophy in a new key. These leave for interesting interpretations for common people capturing their intellect and imaginations. Its more partial for people open for imaginations! These objects are harder to understand even compared to computers!

Villages like Asundi or Huli Halli follow various Godly ritual around the year. Most people participate in such activities and often look out for something mysterious which most of us like to seek call it truth or god.
