Why is Richard Foreman sick of audience ?

Artistes often tend to get into this whirlpool! Audience responses! and they get tired of it easily! Its funny! Artistes depend on Audience for exchanging an Aesthetic moment! It might be good for the audience to admire, enjoy the moment and turn around but not really so encouraging for the artistes all the time! It is so simple that that artistes have to turn inside to themselves to share that aesthetic moment with themselves to be spirited and fresh. Sing for your self and the beauty of aesthetic is for yourself! There is no historical, cultural, semantic, market comparison for this! Watch Richard Foreman on Edge

Madhumad Sarang

My sister many times calls fellow young musicians to her practice den and they practice and discuss together in a good spirit. Yesterday a young talented and enthusistic lad - Omkarnath Havaldar came over to sing along few devotional songs which they had to perform in a concert. Me and my sister wished to listen to his classical talent. He was nice and he sang rag Madhumad Sarang which was one of his favourites. The rendering and swar patterns were amazing and after the brief recital, all three of us stood silent for a long time to sink in the idea of the beautiful rag. Ofcourse this was due to his excellent rendering. While he sang, I noticed sound being present all over the place. Even behind the artiste. I went out to test and realised that, the musical sounds were present almost in every part of the space all around him upto aound 25 feet. This was a breath taking experience for me since I was enjoying the sound very pecularly in all directions. There was no use of mike. I felt li...

Mandali Memories

Image
When I recieved this picture, few memories struck me right in the middle of my heart. It was so glad to see Ravi mama and his sincere elegant rendering of tabla, Patient and delightingly creative Katti mama and Heroic Aarti ji inspiring as my sister tried to learn more. Its a pleasure to see Mandali back in action. It reminds me of the days when we ussed to work in the evenings posting members and arranging the stage smiling at many great artistes whoever visited us at the old Ghokale Institute. Audience would sincerely arrive at sharp six to listen to artistes. We served tea, and it was a delight to see artistes uncovering their brilliant instruments from their well tied bags. Sitars, tablas, sarods, tanpuras, clarinets and flutes. Artistes always came well dressed, scented with decorated kurtas and great sense of humour. Artistes jokes have punny humour. Before the concert, they would tune in the instruments and I always was eager to recognize the magical raga which they are going to ...

Ritualization

Image
Festivals bring rituals into our homes. Ladies take them seriously and perform all the ritualistic activities as prescribed. ( Sorry even men do) Prescribed ritualism creates colorful events and lots of preparations along and festivals become active. Food, new clothes, new activties,people,holidays....! isnt it enough to transform oneself from routine? Gods get decorated and people eat well. Rituals look like the active elements of events (you can add based on religious canonic logic). What they mean?.....hmmmmm....let me first experience!
